In short
EORI stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification. It is a unique number, valid throughout the European Union, used by customs authorities to identify people and companies carrying out customs operations.
Who needs an EORI number
- companies importing or exporting goods outside the EU;
- sole traders carrying out customs operations;
- individuals who declare a customs operation themselves, in some situations.
If you work with a freight forwarder, they will usually ask for your EORI number to prepare the customs declaration.
What it looks like and how long it is valid
In Romania, the EORI number starts with RO, followed by the company's tax ID or an assigned code for individuals. It does not expire, but must be updated if identification details change.
